MainStreet Partners names ESG ‘champions’ for 2026

Nordea, Sycomore and Evenlode were among the asset manager names recognised in the sixth ESG and Sustainability Champions by MainStreet Partners.

The data provider looked for fund groups and portfolios that demonstrated “exceptional performance in addressing ESG and sustainability challenges” across multiple asset classes.

Sophie Meatyard, MainStreet Partners’ head of fund research, explained the methodology was updated last year: “At the beginning of 2025, many expected the regulatory landscape to settle, but the reality has been continued evolution and heightened scrutiny across global markets. Asset managers face growing pressure to demonstrate credibility and transparency, as regulators and investors alike demand robust evidence of sustainability claims.

“Our methodologies have evolved to reflect these changes while remaining consistent in their core principles: clarity, comparability, and integrity. This approach enables us to provide clients with confidence in an environment where expectations are constantly shifting.

“In such a dynamic market, those who embrace innovation and maintain a proactive stance will be best positioned to thrive. These awards celebrate asset managers and funds that exemplify leadership and resilience in the face of ongoing transformation.”

The three pillar methodology assesses the overall asset management firm, the fund’s strategy and individual holdings. The MainStreet ESG and Sustainability rating ranges from a score of 1 (low) to 5 (high). Each of the 80+ underlying factors contributing to the three pillars have a specific weight and various bonus/malus structures are used to emphasise particularly important aspects of the model. The methodology also includes two separate regulatory assessments.
