KPMG Launches Decarbonization Hub in Canada

Professional services firm KPMG Canada announced today the launch of a new decarbonization hub, aimed at helping companies achieve emissions reduction and energy transition goals and meet their net zero commitments.

KPMG said that the new hub will integrate several climate-focused services and solutions offered by the firm, including developing corporate strategy-aligned decarbonization pathways for clients, support in implementing decarbonization solutions including technologies, infrastructure, and operating models, helping clients to understand emerging regulatory, legal, tax and funding issues, structuring and arranging financing for decarbonization projects and investments, and climate-related reporting aligned with ESG reporting standards and frameworks.

Doron Telem, National ESG Leader at KPMG in Canada, said:

“With evolving government regulations and increased stakeholder expectations, Canadian organizations are under pressure to make meaningful progress in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. Our new Decarbonization Hub brings together under one umbrella, our infrastructure, finance, climate and technology specialists to help our clients devise and implement realistic transition plans. The Hub also collaborates with our deal and tax professionals to facilitate transactions that may be required in the decarbonization process.”

The new Decarbonization Hub will be led by KPMG Partner Andrew McHardy, who joined the firm’s Global Infrastructure Advisory practice earlier this year. McHardy, a Canadian military veteran, joined KPMG from WSP in Canada, where he most recently served as Vice President, Energy / Energy, Resources & Industry, and he has also served as a Senior Manager with Omnia AI, Deloitte Canada’s Artificial Intelligence practice.

McHardy said:

“Decarbonization is an increasingly complex endeavour, particularly as organizations move forward from low-carbon commitments and boardroom planning to implementation and monitoring decarbonization solutions. That’s why investing in the right strategies, technologies, tools and methods at the start of the journey is critical to decarbonizing your business efficiently and cost-effectively. Our Decarbonization Hub is structured to help organizations navigate a myriad of policy, regulatory, technical, commercial and financial-related uncertainties as they transform their business, operations and assets.”
