Google Signs 500 MW Solar Deal to Power Texas Data Centers

Google announced that it has signed a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with renewable energy developer and independent power producer Linea Energy for the production of 500 MW of energy from a new solar project in Texas, aimed at supporting the company’s data center operations in the state.

The announcement marks the latest in a series of large-scale clean energy purchases by Google, including a 1 GW solar PPA signed in February with TotalEnergies in Texas, and a 1.2 GW deal with Clearway in January, to provide power to data centers in Missouri, Texas, and West Virginia.

Google’s environmental targets include 2030 goals to reach net zero emissions across its operations and value chain, and its 24/7 CFE ambition, aiming to run its entire business on carbon-free energy (CFE) by 2030, matching electricity demand with CFE supply every hour of every day, in every region where the company operates. The company has signed more than 170 agreements to purchase over 23 GW of clean energy generation since 2010.

Will Conkling, Director of Energy and Power, Google said:

“By collaborating with Linea Energy to bring new low-cost power to the grid, we are helping to ensure the Lone Star State’s energy system remains affordable for local families and businesses.”

The new agreement will source power from Linea’s Duffy Solar Project, which will cover 3,526 acres in Matagorda, Texas, supporting Google’s data center operations in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market, a wholesale electric market which covers 90% of the state’s electrical grid and serves around 26 million customers.

The project will begin construction in Q3 2026 and is co-located with the 235 MWac Duffy battery energy storage system (BESS) project currently under construction.

Cassidy DeLine, Chief Executive Officer of Linea Energy said:

“We are pleased to sign this agreement to supply clean energy in Texas to Google, one of the world’s largest buyers of clean power. This transaction highlights Linea’s credibility amongst the largest hyperscalers and the ability to support affordability and grid reliability.”
